Buffalo School District RE-4J School Community,
As we approach November, I want to provide some information to our local school community about the Buffalo School District RE-4J ballot question and why it has been placed before our voters.
Over the past six years, our district has completed more than $5 million in facility improvements. These have included our track and football facilities, baseball upgrades, gym renovation and new bleachers, and major energy-efficiency improvements including HVAC equipment, controls, and systems. We have been fortunate to accomplish these projects through a combination of grants, donations, fundraising, partnerships, and district resources.
Our next identified needs focus primarily on safety, security, and maintaining our existing facilities.
The November ballot question asks voters whether the district may extend the taxes originally authorized in 2007, without imposing a new tax, to finance up to $1.25 million for specific projects. These include new cameras and key-fob access systems, improvements to the main entrances of the elementary and high school buildings, improvements to the elementary playground including safer flooring, and, to the extent funds are available, refinancing the district's existing capital lease.
Over the years, our approach has been to take care of what we have, seek outside funding whenever possible, and plan for improvements before they become emergencies. This ballot question is part of that continuing facility planning.
Ultimately, this is a decision for our local voters. I want our community to understand what is being proposed, why these projects have been identified, and how the funds would be used.
I encourage everyone to read the ballot language, ask questions, and make an informed decision this November. I am always available to answer factual questions about the projects, our facilities, or the financial details.
Thank you for continuing to care about our school, our students, and the future of Buffalo School District.
Building Tomorrow’s Leaders Today!
